Three First Period Goals Power Pioneers Past Oswego

BRIDGEPORT, CT (December 5, 2009) - Junior forwards Kristina Hankins (Lexington, MA) and Brittany Hartman (Prior Lake, MN) along with sophomore Tara Kent (Glenview, IL) each notched a goal in the first period as the Sacred Heart University women's ice hockey team downed Oswego State, 7-2, at the Wonderland of Ice Saturday afternoon.  For the Pioneers, it was their third straight win as they improved to 4-9, while the Lakers dropped to 4-5.

Sophomore Kelly Collins scored in the first period for Oswego State to tie the game 1-1 eight minutes into the contest.  The Lakers would get only one more past freshman Emily Siira (Cedarburg, WI), as senior Tiarra Garrow netted a goal in the third period.

In the final period, senior Kate Dunlop (Flesherton, ON), junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON), sophomore Jackie Galvin (Canton, MA), and Hartman all scored a goal.  Hartman finished the game with two goals and an assist, while classmate Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI) picked up a pair of assists.

Siira earned her fourth win of the season by stopping 22 shots.  For the Lakers, freshman Lana Peterson made 38 saves in between the pipes.

The Pioneers hit the ice again next Friday, December 11, at home against Robert Morris College (IL) at 7:00 pm.
