Sacred Heart Plays to 4-4 Tie With Robert Morris (IL)

BRIDGEPORT, CT (December 11, 2009) – The Sacred Heart University women’s ice hockey team played to a 4-4 tie with Robert Morris University (Illinois) at the Wonderland of Ice Friday night. After a scoreless first period the two teams erupted for four goals in the first 4:11 of the second stanza.
Ramey Weaver of RMU scored first at 2:13. The Pioneers answered with goals from sophomore Sara Reddington (Needham, MA), freshman Caroline Herlihy (Burlington, MA), and junior Taryn Lapierre (Oakland, RI). Danielle McCutcheon would bring the Eagles within one as she lit the lamp 9:18 into the period.
In the third period, junior Lauren Fontaine (Windsor, ON) netted her team-leading eight goal of the season to put SHU up 4-2. Robert Morris came back to tie the game with late goals by Hope Fullum and Ashley Fenton.
Freshman Emily Siira made 26 saves for the Pioneers, while Ashley Miller made 46 for the Eagles.
Sacred Heart returns to action after the holidays on December 29 against Western Ontario.
