(May 29, 2010) - Sacred Heart senior goalkeeper Chelsea Wagner (Aurora, CO) was selected to the 2010 Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-North Region First Team announced on Friday. Wagner becomes the first Pioneer in program history to earn a spot on the regional team and will now be eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA All-American teams.
The 2010 IWLCA All-American teams will be announced on Monday, May 31 and be honored at the IWLCA All-American banquet on June 12, 2010 at the Crowne Plaza Valley Forge in King of Prussia, Pa. Wagner is one of 128 Division I student-athletes honored with a selection to one of the All-Region teams.
Wagner turned in a stellar senior campaign where she was nationally ranked in the top-10 in all statistical goalkeeping rankings. She was named the inaugural Northeast Conference Goalkeeper of the Year and led the Pioneers to their third-straight NEC Championship along the way. The centerpiece of the SHU defensive unit, Wagner guided the NEC's leading defense to a league-low 8.76 goals allowed per game. The Pioneers ran through the Northeast Conference slate and the postseason a perfect 11-0 with Wagner never allowing more than eight goals in any game while posting a stingy 5.74 goals against average and stopping 63.0% of the shots she faced.
She led the nation this season in save percentage, stopping 57.7% of shots. Her 173 saves on the season, including 10.0 per game, ranked her seventh nationally in both categories. She finished the year sporting a 7.97 goals against average, a mark that ranked her fifth among NCAA leaders.
In addition to garnering the league's top-goalkeeping honor, the three-time NEC Defensive Player of the Week earned herself a spot on the All-Northeast Conference first team for the second-straight season. She closed out her career at Sacred Heart as the program's all-time winningest goalie with 44 career wins. Her 692 career saves ranks second all-time in the SHU record books while her 9.29 career goals against average and .533 career save percentage rank third.
Wagner and fellow senior Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) were recently selected to participate in the 2010 IWLCA / Under Armour North-South All-Star Game being held on Saturday, June 12th. The game will be played at the United Sports Training Center in Downingtown, Pennsylvania with opening draw slated for 12 noon.
