• Pioneer WLax Season Ends with NEC Tournament Loss to Quinnipiac

    The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team fell short in their bid for a fourth-straight Northeast Conference Championship on Friday, losing to top-seed and host Quinnipiac 18-9 in the semifinal round. This was the fourth-straight season the Pioneers and Bobcats have squared off in the NEC Tournament, the previous three coming for the title.

    On the eve of the 2011 Northeast Conference Tournament, four Pioneers were selected to earn All-Northeast Conference honors. Sacred Heart sophomore attacker Emily Pepe (East Quogue, NY) was named to the All-NEC first team while senior midfielder Jessica Ingrilli (Wantagh, NY) and junior midfielder Kate Kmiotek (Farmingville, NY) earned spots on the second team. Freshman Kelsey Russo (Lindenhurst, NY) was named to the NEC's All-Rookie team.

    The Sacred Heart women’s lacrosse team lost their season finale, 10-9 at Mount St. Mary’s on Saturday but still qualified for a spot in the Northeast Conference Tournament thanks to a Quinnipiac win over Monmouth. The Pioneers saw a three-goal second half lead erased as they end the regular season 6-10 overall and 5-4 in the NEC.

    The late season surge continued on Friday for the Sacred Heart women’s lacrosse team as the Pioneers picked-up their fourth-straight win, beating Monmouth on the road 12-6 in Northeast Conference play. The Pioneers improved to 5-3 in the NEC and are tied with the Hawks and Saturday’s opponent, Mount St. Mary’s for one of the final two Northeast Conference Tournament spots heading into the season finale.

    Sacred Heart freshman Kelsey Russo (Lidenhurst, NY) scored a career-high five goals and four other players scored three goals each as the Pioneers dominated the second half in a 19-7 win over Wagner College Sunday afternoon in Northeast Conference play.
  • SHU’s Kaitlin Rochler Scores Five as Pioneers Beat Long Island, 13-8

    Sacred Heart junior Kaitlin Rochler (Wading River, NY) scored five goals and passed out three assists to lead the Pioneers past Long Island, 13-8, in Northeast Conference play Friday afternoon. The Pioneers out shot LIU 32-18 and forced 20 Blackbird turnovers in the win to improve to 4-9 and 3-3 in the NEC.
