FAIRFIELD, CT (March 26, 2012) - Sacred Heart senior Aurelie Pluijmakers (Freehold, NJ) and freshman Kelly Keenan (Wantagh, NY) took home Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse honors this week. Plujimakers was named the NEC Co-Offensive Player of the Week, sharing the award with Sarah Allen of Quinnipiac. Keenan was tabbed the NEC Defensive Player of the Week. This is the first awards for both Pluijmakers and Keenan.
Plujimakers posted record breaking numbers this week as she tallied eight goals and two assists in the Pioneer's 22-8 win over LIU Brooklyn. The senior's ten points in a game tied Carissa Hauser's 2009 record, while her eight goals set a new Pioneer record. Her eight goals came off of nine shots. Following her electric performance on Friday Pluijmakers scored a pair of goals and picked up four draw controls against Wagner. She opened the scoring in each half and her tally at the start the second half was the catalyst to a 4-1 run that put the Pioneer's back in front of the Seahawks. The New Jersey native leads the Pioneers with 23 goals on the season and is fourth in the league in goals per game (2.88).
Keenan made 17 saves and boasted a 9.00 goals against average on the weekend, as the Pioneer's began league play with wins over LIU Brooklyn and Wagner. Keenan made 11 saves and collected seven groundballs Friday afternoon to help the Pioneers post a 22-8 win over the Blackbirds. She followed up this performance by turning in six saves and booking three ground balls on Sunday to help Sacred Heart defeat Wagner, 12-10. Keenan currently ranks third in the conference in saves per game with 10.50.
The duo leads the Pioneers in to a pair of NEC games at home this weekend, hosting Monmouth on Friday and Mount St. Mary's on Sunday.
