PROVIDENCE, RI (April 14, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's lacrosse team fell behind 12-3 in the first half on the way to a 15-5 loss at Brown University on Satruday night. Senior Aurelie Pluijmakers (Freehold, NJ) posted three goals in the loss, closing out the non-conference portion of their schedule at 1-6. The loss drops SHU to 6-8 overall and ends a three-game winning streak.
The Bears (6-5) out shot the Pioneers (6-8) 22-4 in the first half on their way to building a nine-goal lead at halftime. Brown tacked on the game's first two goals as Kaela McGilloway scored the first of her three goals and Alexandra Crerend followed with the first of her four tallies.
The Pioneers knotted the game up at 2-2 as senior Kaitlin Rochler (Wading River, NY) scored unassisted at 24:04 and junior Emily Pepe (East Quogue, NY) buried a feed from senior Kate Kmiotek (Farmingville, NY) at 19:25. From there it was all Brown as the Bears rattled off 10-straight goals before Pluijmakers ended the run at 4:34 with an 8-meter goal.
Brown pushed their lead to 13-3 on Crerend's fourth at 22:33 and the Bears held the Pioneers off the scoreboard until the 6:51 mark to leave no room for a comeback.
The Pioneers will close out the regular season next weekend hosting Bryant and Central Connecticut State. SHU heads into the final NEC weekend of the season at 5-2 and tied for second in the conference standings.
