EMMITSBURG, MD (April 12, 2013) - Sacred Heart senior Emily Pepe (East Quogue, NY) and sophomore Taylor Babin (Ellicott City, MD) scored two goals each but the Pioneers were beaten at Mount St. Mary's, 13-5, in Northeast Conference action Friday afternoon. The Pioneers are now even at 3-3 in the NEC this season.
The Mount (5-9, 4-2 NEC) was led by Kaitlyn Larrimore scored a game-high four goals in the win. The Mountaineers used a 7-0 run while keeping the Pioneers offense at bay for just over 36 minutes to take a commanding 13-3 lead.
Hannah Gutcher scored her two goals on a game-opening three goal run for the Mount. Gucher's second came on an 8-meter attempt as the Mount finished a perfect six-of-six on free position attempts in the win.
SHU's Pepe got the Pioneers on the board at 15:38 but Larrimore's first and a score by Mary MaCadam gave the Mount a 5-1 lead with 12:11 left. SHU got goals from Babin and junior Kelsey Russo (Lindenhurst, NY) tacked on goals but the Pioneers would trail 7-3 at the half. Russo's goal at the 8:45 mark was SHU's last until just 2:50 left in the game giving the Mount the opportunity to build a 10-goal lead.
Lindsay Diaz started the Mount seven-goal run with 7:46 left in the frist half and tacked two more on during the rally in the second half. Larrimore scored three times as well and Molly Morris capped it at 10:22 giving the Mountaineers their biggest lead at 13-3.
SHU tacked on a pair late off the sticks of Babin and Pepe to produce the 13-5 final. For the second time this season, SHU's leading scorer Shelby Vaccaro (48 pts) was held scoreless.
The Pioneers end their two-game road swing on Sunday at Monmouth.
