Pioneer Women's Lacrosse Announces 2014 Captains
FAIRFIELD, CT (September 26, 2013) - Sacred Heart head women's lacrosse coach Laura Cook announced that juniors Brianna Schussler (Wantagh, NY), Demi Lopez (Wading River, NY) and Kelly Keenan (Wantagh, NY) have been named team captains for the 2014 season.
"I am excited to announced Kelly, Demi and Brianna as captains for 2014," stated Cook, entering her 15th season at the helm. "Their hardwork, commitment and dedication to our program both on the field and in the classroom will serve as a example to all our players of what we expect from a Pioneer women's lacrosse player."
Schussler started all 15 games last spring in the Pioneer midfield. She finished the season with a pair of goals and assists but made her presence felt on the defensive end where she collected 21 ground balls and 13 caused turnovers. Lopez appeared in 15 games with 13 starting assignments in the midfield. Lopez registered an assists and had 16 grounders with nine caused turnovers.
Keenen has been a mainstay in the cage for the Pioneers since game one her freshman season. Last spring she turned in 110 saves with an 11.29 goals against average. As a rookie, Keenan garnered All-NEC second team and All-Rookie honors. She had 153 saves and a 9.56 goals against average.
"Our goal is to return to the NEC Tournament and a championship level of lacrosse and we believe that these three captains will lead us there."
