Sacred Heart University junior goalkeeper Kelly Keenan (Wantagh, N.Y.) was named the Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Defensive Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first weekly award for the Pioneers, who went 1-1 in the past week.
Keenan, a graduate of Wantagh High School, averaged 10.5 saves in the Pioneers two games in Florida during spring break. She stopped nine shots, to go along with five ground balls, in the squads 13-10 win over Stetson on Saturday. In the midweek game Keenan made a dozen saves and picked up a team-best eight ground balls.
The Pioneers starting goalkeeper in each of the first four games, Keenan has made 34 saves this spring, over 240 minute of action. She has picked up 15 ground balls, tops on the team thus far, and has caused three turnovers.
Keenan and the Pioneers are back in action on Saturday afternoon when they travel to Vermont for a 1 p.m. non-conference game. Sacred Heart returns four days after that to host Manhattan.
