FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Senior midfielder Caitlin Delaney earned a pair of Northeast Conference women's lacrosse weekly honors on Monday, leading Sacred Heart to its second straight NEC Tournament appearance.
Delaney was named Defensive Player of the Week and shared Player of the Week honors with Bryant's Jess DeMeo. In SHU's two wins over Saint Francis U and Robert Morris this weekend, the senior had seven goals and three assists. On Friday, Delaney had four goals and an assist in SHU's 15-14 win over the Red Flash. She also had six draw controls, six caused turnovers, and three groundballs. On Senior Day Sunday, the senior had three goals and two assists, including an assist on the game-winning goal. Delaney also had four groundballs, five draw controls, and three caused turnovers. In the two games, Delaney filled the stat sheet with seven goals, three assists, seven groundballs, 11 draw controls, and nine caused turnovers.
The Pioneers enter this weekend's NEC Women's Lacrosse Championship as the fourth seed. SHU will take on top-seed Bryant on Friday, May 5 at 1 p.m. at Bryant.
