Winthrop Gets Its Way Against SHU Women’s Lacrosse

ROCK HILL, SC -  The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team (0-5) fell to Winthrop (2-3), 15-4, Thursday afternoon at Eagle Field.

How it happened…

At 24:43 of the first quarter, Alyssa Pearce got the Pioneers on the board on a goal by the direction of Cassie Cesario. The tally not only rolled our scoring for SHU but provided an answer to Winthrop's goal about three minutes prior, 1-up.

The foe managed to quiet the Pioneers for about 15 minutes while tacking on six more goals to ultimately build up a lead SHU failed to cut in considerably.

The numbers…

Pearce led SHU with a pair of goals while Casario was the lone Pioneer with an assist. Hanna Wise and Kerri Metzler also provided goals for SHU.

Elizabeth Small earned four draw controls and caused an Eagles' turnover.

Kelsey Perretta, Casey Hannon and Small also picked up a pair of groundballs each.

Up next…

The Pioneers will face Fresno State this Saturday, March 10 at noon.
