FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team (0-6) dropped a 14-7 decision to visiting to Fresno State (4-2), Saturday afternoon at Campus Field.
How it happened…
The Bulldogs blanked the Pioneers through the first half of play while mounting eight points of their own behind the intermission. Carrie Speicher would tack on the first SHU goal at the 28-minute mark of the second half to spark a 3-1 Pioneers run, 9-3 (21:10).
Mackenzie Wallevand's free position goal and Hannah Kratz's tally accounted for a 2-0 run by the visitors before the hosts silenced the foe for about seven minutes. In the span, the Pioneers three more goals and filled in more than half of their deficit, 11-6 (8:40).
Speicher would net another goal but amid a 3-1 run favoring the Bulldogs to help settle the final.
Hanna Wise credited a hat trick and won a draw control to help steer the Pioneers offense.
Speicher dealt a pair of tallies seeing five of her attempts on goal.
Pioneers' keeper Paige Hammick picked up five groundballs to spearhead SHU's defense. Sweeney (3), Nicole Holder (3), Dominique Anselmin (3) and Kelsey Perretta (3) also registered in the category. Hammick also recorded 10 saves.
SHU travels to UMass Lowell for a Saturday matchup, March 17 at 1 p.m.
