SMITHFIELD, RI – Alyssa Pearce registered a hat trick but the Sacred Heart University women's lacrosse team (1-10, 1-1 NEC) fell, 18-6, in Northeast Conference play to Bryant (7-4, 2-0 NEC) Friday afternoon at Bryant Track and Turf.
How it happened…
Pearce opened scoring for either team finding the back of the net on a feed from Sydney Ericson less than seven minutes into the contest. After 39 seconds went by, Bryant's Jess Demeo evened the game, 1-up.
At the 22:03 mark, Pearce was awarded a free position attempt and converted to put the Pioneers back in front. Caitlin Breglia and Demeo put in back-to-back goals to move Bryant ahead, 3-2 at 10:31. Nicole Holder blasted a shot a little over a minute later to deadlock scoring for the final time.
Pearce's tally at 3:51 stopped a 3-0 run by the hosts and Hanna Wise's goal at 1:51 rounded out scoring at the break, 6-5.
The Bulldogs exited the locker-room with steam dealing 10 consecutive goals over the course of almost 15 minutes to pocket the win.
Pearce's hat trick was supported by two ground balls.
Wise, Holder and Averi Farhat each supplied a goal. Wise added a ground ball while Farhat picked up a pair.
Cassie Cesario got three balls on the turf.
The Pioneers travel to intrastate opponent, Central Connecticut State, Sunday, April 15 prior to a 1:00 p.m. opening draw.
