LOUISVILLE, Ky. - (February 19, 2010) - Sacred Heart senior Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) scored a pair of goals but the Pioneers dropped their 2010 season opener Friday afternoon, falling 17-5 at the University of Louisville. The Pioneers held an early 4-1 lead but were outscored 10-0 in the second half in falling to the Cardinals.
SHU (0-1) senior Cori Horelik (South Windsor, CT) opened the scoring 57 seconds into play, netting an unassisted marker followed by Hauser's first at 24:09 on an 8meter free-position goal for a 2-0 lead. UL's Bergan Foley buried a feed from Abigail Wah at 22:37 to cut it to 2-1 but the Pioneer's answered with a pair.
Hauser buried her second goal of the game at 18:41, unassisted, and sophomore Kate Kmiotek (Farmingville, NY) followed at 16:26, also unassisted for the 4-1 advantage. The Cardinals started a 6-1 run at the 14 minute mark to head into the locker room up 7-5 at the break. Emily Dashiell started the rally with back-to-back unassisted markers while Foley notched a pair to make it 6-4 Louisville.
Sophomore Kaitlin Rochler (Wading River, NY) briefly halted the streak at 2:37 scoring off a feed from Horelik but Foley struck again before the halftime horn, scoring her fourth of the half, unassisted, with six seconds left.
The second half was all Louisville as Foley opened play with her fifth goal to start a 10-0 run that covered the full 30 minutes. Foley also tacked on her sixth and seventh goals of the day during the run. The Cardinals outshot the Pioneers 47-13 in the win and forced 28 turnovers.
The Pioneers got a career-high 20 saves from senior goalkeeper Laurine Stafin (Spring Lake, NJ) in the loss.
SHU is back in action facing the Manhattan Jaspers on Sunday at the University of Louisville.
