FAIRFIELD, Conn. (February 23, 2010) - Sacred Heart seniors Carissa Hauser (East Northport, NY) and Laurine Stafin (Spring Lake, NJ) took home two of the first Northeast Conference Women's Lacrosse Weekly Awards handed out this season. Hauser was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Stafin earned the Defensive Player of the Week award.
Hauser totaled seven goals and three assists to go along with seven draws, and was a perfect 3-3 on free position opportunities last week to take home NEC Player of the Week honors for the two-time defending NEC champion Pioneers. After netting two goals, three draws and a caused turnover in a setback to Louisville on Thursday, Hauser compiled four goals and three assists by halftime in Sacred Heart's 10-9 win over Manhattan on Sunday. The 2009 All-NEC second teamer finished with five goals, three draws and matched a career-high with three assists in the victory.
Stafin averaged 17 saves per game, stopped 56.7 percent of the shots she faced and earned her first career victory in Sacred Heart's 1-1 week. Stafin, who appeared in three games last season, posted a career-high 20 saves in a loss at Louisville on Thursday before making 14 stops two days later in a 10-9 conquest of Manhattan.
The Pioneers are back in action on Saturday, February 27th at Brown.
