Fairfield, Conn - The Sacred Heart rowing team hit the road last weekend to compete in both the "Head of the Fish" in Saratoga Springs, New York and the Fall Mets in Orchard Beach Lagoon, NY. The Pioneers first put together a strong performance at the "Head of the Fish", finishing with three silver medals and one gold medal. SHU medaled in four of the six events they entered. The Novice 8 crew particularly impressed, bringing home the gold medal and the almighty Fish Head. The three silver medals were won by the Open 4, Novice 4, and the Open 8.
The team returned to campus late Saturday night and was on the road again for the Fall Mets on Sunday, October 28. Despite the 20 MPH winds created by Hurricane Sandy, the SHU crews performed well finishing fourth in all their respective races. The varsity 4, varsity 8, novice 4 and novice 8 all grabbed fourth place finishes.
Coach Manescu was pleased with the weekend;
"It was a great way to end the fall season, especially after the great showing at the Head of the Charles the previous weekend. With the fall season behind us, the team is moving indoors for training in preparation for the spring."
The Pioneers start the spring season on March 3rd at the Murphy Cup.
