SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart women's rowing team medaled in three races Saturday at the Head of the Fish.
The Pioneers won the Novice 4+ in the open category, covering the two-mile course in a time of 19:08.2. The crew of Christina Fratto (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), Megan Smith (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.), Megan McMenimen (Arlington, Mass.), Karina Suszynski (Milton, Mass.), and coxswain Sarah Venuti (Arlington, Mass.) also competed in the Collegiate Novice Four race and placed sixth. Jaclyn Smith (Williston Park, N.Y.) and Catherine Lott (Roxbury, Conn.) finished second in the Open 2x race with a time of 17:17.9. The Lightweight 4+ crew of Emily Casey (Arlington, Mass.), Kaitlyn Blanda (Huntington, N.Y.), Samantha O'Brien (Trumbull, Conn.), Lauren Dufresne (Mattapoisett, Mass.), and coxswain Julia Gonfiantini (Katonah, N.Y.) overcame a slow start to finish third in their race.
Sacred Heart's Open 4+ boat of Lott, Smith, Jillian Gray (Andover, Mass.), Erika Doyle (Middle Village, N.Y.), and Christina Pesci (Nutley, Conn.) also finished third in their race with a time of 17:29. The Pioneers' Open 8+ crew had a fifth place finish and the Novice 8+ boat finished 25th.
The Pioneers wrap up the fall season at the Fall Metropolitan Regatta on Nov. 2.
