Sacred Heart Women's Soccer Blanks Wagner, 2-0

Pioneer Vision Post Game Report - Interview With Elizabeth Stewart (Video)

Samantha Kee (Haskell, NJ) and Heather Quevillion (Dayville, CT) each scored a goal as SHU earned a 2-0 victory over Wagner Sunday afternoon at Campus Field.  Goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY) posted four saves to record her fourth shutout in the last five games.

Sacred Heart (6-4-3, 2-1-1 NEC) opened the scoring early as Kee netted her fifth goal of 2010 just over 12 minutes into the first half.  Jasmine Rodriguez (Clinton, CT) started the play by switching the field with a long pass to Ashley Moore (Levittown, NY).  Moore then provided the crossing pass for Kee to finish, picking up an assist and her first point of the season.

Lucy Gildein (Topsfield, MA) twice gave the Pioneers an opportunity to extend the lead in the opening half.  The first chance came after a great double move from the freshman forward but her crossing pass was intercepted by the Seahawk netminder.  Gildein nearly scored herself with ten minutes to play in the half but Amanda Sieferman made a defensive save to keep the game at 1-0 going into halftime.

Wagner (5-8-2, 1-2-2 NEC) conceded a second goal to the Pioneers just under 20 minutes into the second half.  Amanda Stiles (Miller Place, NY) took a close range shot that bounced off the goaltender and the crossbar, returning into play.  Quevillion got to the rebound first and slotted home her second goal of the season to make it a 2-0 affair.  Reichelt was forced to maintain her shutout making a diving save with 2:27 remaining in regulation, turning away a hard shot from Jessica Balling.

The women's soccer team returns to action next weekend with a pair of road NEC games on Friday and Sunday, facing off with Mount St. Mary's and Monmouth, respectively.
