Alyssa Brandofino (East Northport, NY) posted two assists against Mount St. Mary's and played solid defense in SHU's scoreless tie with Monmouth en route to being named the adidas/Northeast Conference defensive player of the week. The award is the first career collegiate honor for the freshman defender who is now tied for the Sacred Heart team lead with five assists this season.
Brandofino assisted on both of the SHU goals against the Mount,
swinging in great passes on set piece opportunities. Her
first helper came when Heather Quevillion (Dayville, CT) headed in
a corner kick to knot the game at 1-1 early in the second half.
The Pioneers scored the game winning goal with 33 seconds
remaining in regulation when Leigh Dogmanits (Walnutport, PA) found
the back of the net following a Brandofino free kick. The
Pioneer defense held tough through 16 Hawk shots as SHU secured a
sixth shutout in 2010.
The women's soccer returns home this weekend for two huge NEC tilts against Saint Francis (PA) and Robert Morris.
