Judkins Stops Seven in 0-0 Tie at Army to Conclude Weekend Classic
WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University and United States Military Academy women's soccer teams played to a scoreless draw in the final game of the Army Soccer Classic, hosted by the Black Knights, Sunday afternoon. On a day filled with reflection and remembrance, a moment of silence was held prior to the game to commemorate the 10-year anniversary of the events of September 11, 2001.
Junior goalkeeper Sydney Judkins (South Park, Pa.) made seven saves for the Pioneers (2-2-2), her second highest total of the season. The shutout is the first of the season for Judkins and second of her career, which also came in a scoreless tie at Central Connecticut, a year ago. For Army (4-1-2), senior Monica Lee provided six stops to keep SHU off the board.
Offensively, there was no lack of opportunities for either side as the Black Knights totaled 20 shots and the Pioneers 13. After an uneventful first overtime, Army peppered the Sacred Heart goal for five shots, including three in the final two and a half minutes. Judkins collected three of her seven saves in the second OT alone.
Sacred Heart left West Point with a loss and a draw after falling to St. Bonaventure 1-0 on Friday night. Army won its first game of the classic, a 3-0 decision over VMI. In action earlier today, SBU and VMI played to a 1-1 tie.
The Pioneers stay on the road this week as they face Manhattan at 7:00 pm on Friday at Brown at 4:00 pm on Sunday, leading up to the Northeast Conference portion of the schedule.
