Women's Soccer Makes It Three in a Row
The Sacred Heart Women's Soccer Team is on a three-game winning streak after shutting out Wagner today 1-0. The Pioneers' record improves to 8-4-3 (4-2-1 NEC), while the Seahawks' drops to 9-6-2 (3-5 NEC).
The Pioneers seemed to be ahead of the Seahawks right from the start. In the first half alone Sacred Heart outshot Wagner 9-2. With less than three minutes left in the first half, a shot by Jen Mulvey (Manalapan, N.J.) and made it past Wagner goal keeper, Kate Marcy. Off an assist by junior Mikaela Wolf (Northport, N.Y.), Mulvey's shot went over the head of Marcy for the only goal of the game. With today's goal, Mulvey ties Amanda Stiles for the team lead with five goals this season.
Wagner threatened in the second half with a header off junior Heather Zurich and a header from junior Julie Vigliotti. Both shots were wide.
Sacred Heart totaled 15 shots in the game; nine were on goal becoming saves for Marcy. The Seahawks, on the other hand, only got off four shots today, all of which were wide.
The Pioneers play again in New York on Sunday. They take on the Long Island University Blackbirds at 1:00 p.m.
