Pioneers Shut Out in One Goal Game

Fairfield, Conn.—The Pioneers battled, but the Sacred Heart Women's Soccer Team fell to Brown 1-0 dropping their record to 3-5 before opening conference play next week. Sophomore Kristen Verrette (Saugus, Mass.) led the Pioneers taking three shots in the game, all three of which were on goal.

In the 34th minute of the game, Brown's Mika Seigelman passed right to Chloe Cross who shot the ball past SHU Goalkeeper Sydney Judkins (South Park, Penn.), just the fifth that has gotten past the senior this year, into the left corner for the first and only goal of the game.

Sacred Heart fought hard, with nearly 50 percent of their shots on goal (5-12), but were unable to sneak one past the Bears' goalkeepers Amber Bledsoe and MC Barrett. The Pioneers outshot Brown in the second half 6-5, while Talia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.) held the Bears scoreless.

The Pioneers open conference play next Sunday, September 22 at noon in Teaneck, N.J. against the Fairleigh Dickinson Knights.
