Pioneers Set for NEC Tournament, Rematch with Red Flash
The Sacred Heart women's soccer team is back in the NEC Tournament for the second straight season. The Pioneers kick-off this year's NEC Tournament Friday at noon against the Red Flash of Saint Francis (PA). The LIU Blackbirds and the Monmouth Hawks complete the field of four and are set for the other semi-final match-up. The winners of each semi-final will face-off in the Championship on Sunday.

The Sacred Heart Pioneers are back in the NEC tournament for the second straight season. SHU finished this season with the same exact record in the NEC as last season (6-3-1). The Pioneers are coming into the tournament red hot, winning their final three games of the season and finishing with a record of 5-1-1 in their last seven. The Pioneers won their final three games of the regular season 1-0.
SHU was defeated by Saint Francis (PA) during the regular season, 1-0 in double overtime. Saint Francis (PA) also defeated the Pioneers in the semi-finals of last year's NEC tournament. SHU fell to the Red Flash in penalty kicks. Sacred Heart has scored less than half the number of goals (17) on the season than Saint Francis (PA) (36).

The Pioneers are in their 13th season of play in the Northeast Conference. Sacred Heart holds a 66-46-21 record in NEC competition since joining the league in 1999. The Pioneers won their only league title in 2001. This will be Sacred Heart's ninth appearance in the tournament.
