Fairfield, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University women's soccer team has released its schedule for the upcoming 2013 season. The Pioneers are coming off a season in which they went 9-9-1 before falling to Saint Francis University in the Northeast Conference Tournament semi-finals.
Led by Head Coach Kim Banner, in her ninth season, the Pioneers open up the 2013 regular season on August 23rd at the University of Vermont for an early season tournament. The Pioneers home opener is scheduled for September 6th against Cornell. In addition to Cornell, Sacred Heart's schedule features three more Ivy League opponents; Yale, Brown, and Columbia. The Pioneers round out their non-conference schedule with Lafayette, UMass Lowell, University of Rhode Island and Hartford.
SHU opens up conference play on October 4th when they travel to Staten Island to take on the Wagner Seahawks. Sacred Heart's opportunity for revenge of last year's loss in the NEC semi-finals will come on November 1st when they travel to Loretto, PA to take on Saint Francis University. Sacred Heart hosts the two-time defending Northeast Conference Champion LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds on October 20th. Sacred Heart went 6-4-1 in the conference last season.
Sacred Heart's captains this season are senior defender Alyssa Brandofino (East Northport, NY), senior goalie Sydney Judkins (South Park, PA), junior midfielder Kristin Verrette (Saugus, MA)), and senior goalie Rebecca Senetcen (Ansonia, CT).
