Women's Soccer Picked to Finish Third in the NEC

Fairfield, CT – Head Coach Kim Banner and the Sacred Heart women's soccer team have been selected to finish third in the Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll. Saint Francis University sits atop the preseason poll for the third straight season, while the two-time defending champion, LIU Brooklyn Blackbirds, come in at the number two spot. SHU received one first place vote.

Coach Banner heads a squad that went 9-9-1 last season before falling to Saint Francis University in the Northeast Conference Tournament semi-finals.

SHU will be led this season by senior defender Alyssa Brandofino (East Northport, NY), senior goalkeeper Sydney Judkins (South Park, PA), and junior midfielder Kristin Verrette (Saugus, MA). Judkins only gave up 12 goals last season, playing in all 19 games. She recorded five shutouts in 2012 and her 0.77 goals against average ranked second best in the Northeast Conference.

Sacred Heart's leading goal scorer from a year ago, Dana Cosmedy (Monroe, CT), will also be returning for the Pioneers after making the NEC All-Rookie team in her maiden season at SHU. Cosmedy tied departed senior Jen Mulvey last season with four goals.

Sacred Heart opens up their season at the TD Bank Classic in Vermont on August 23rd when they take on the University of Vermont Catamounts
