FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart women's soccer team held the Saint Peter's Peahens to three shots Sunday in a 4-0 win at Campus Field.
Sacred Heart (2-1) got on the scoresheet in the 14th minute. Kristin Verrette (Saugus, Mass.) struck a loose ball from 20 yards out and scored her fourth goal of the season to give the Pioneers a 1-0 lead. Twenty minutes later, Sacred Heart struck again. Verrette took a through ball from Jillian Picinich (Bellmore, N.Y.) and scored her second goal of the game, putting the Pioneers ahead 2-0. Sacred Heart dominated possession in the first half, holding Saint Peter's (0-3) to one shot that came in the ninth minute.
Alexis Parlato (Center Moriches, N.Y.) scored her first goal of the season in the 51st minute. Parlato fired a shot from close range that was stopped by Peahens goalkeeper Lauren Solene, then put the rebound in the net to give Sacred Heart a 3-0 lead. Much like in the first half, the Pioneers controlled the ball and added their fourth goal late in the half. Gabby Biagini (White Plains, N.Y.) completed a run from the back by playing the ball to Emily Dawidczyk (Oxford, Mass.). Dawidczyk shot the ball from 10 years out and scored her first goal of the season in the 89th minute to complete Sacred Heart's 4-0 win.
The Pioneers outshot the Peahens 28-3 for the game, putting 17 shots on goal. Sacred Heart goalkeeper Talia Schwartz (Roslyn, N.Y.) needed to make just one save for her first clean sheet of the season.
Sacred Heart is next in action on Friday, September 5 at Columbia. Kickoff is at 7 p.m.
