Sacred Heart fell to the Broncs 1-0 Friday afternoon in Lawrenceville, NJ. Claire Thompson scored the only goal of the game in the 27th minute on a chip from just outside the penalty box. Pioneer goalkeeper Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY) made five saves in the contest while Bronco net minder Alex Post notched two and earned her second consecutive shutout.
Rider (2-2-0) outshot Sacred Heart 10-7 and earned six corner kicks to the Pioneers four. Alexis Coughlin led the way for the Broncs tallying five shots, three on goal. Rider took an early 1-0 lead after a long pass from Meghan Mohr found the feet of Thompson who put it past Reichelt for what would prove to be the game winner.
Sacred Heart (1-2-0) was unable to the target with regularity putting just two shots on goal in seven attempts. The Pioneers stayed in the game late after a good save from Reichelt on a Coughlin break away in the 80th minute. Sacred Heart did mount pressure late earning two corner kicks and several shots. The best chance come on a shot from Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT) with four minutes to play but Post turned it away to secure the win for Rider.
The Pioneers remain in New Jersey as they take on St. Peter’s College this Sunday. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
