Loretto, PA - The Sacred Heart women's soccer team finished its trip to Pennsylvania 1-1-0 after defeating Saint Francis (PA) 2-1 Sunday afternoon. Samantha Kee (Haskell, NJ) scored the first goal for the Pioneers early in the first half with an assist from Jen Mulvey (Manalapan, NJ). Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT) netted her second game winner in the last three games with just 1:30 remaining in regulation as the Pioneers move to 2-1-0 in Northeast Conference play.
Sacred Heart (6-5-0, 2-1-0 NEC) outshot the Red Flash 7-2 in the first half and did not allow Saint Francis a single attempt on goal. Kee scored the game's first goal just 6:43 into the opening stanza to proivde the Pioneers a 1-0 lead.Testani and and SFU midfielder Traci Flick both earned a yellow card in the 33rd minute. Neither team would be able to manufacture another goal in the first half and SHU took a 1-0 lead to the locker room.
Saint Francis (PA) (5-4-2) would even the game with 17:30 to play on Rachel Seibert's goal after a Red Flash corner kick. The game looked as though it would go to overtime but Testani corralled a cross from Kee and steered the ball past the SFU keeper for the late game winner. All three of the Pioneers NEC games this season have had a game winning goal in the last five minutes of regulation.
The Pioneers cotinue conference play this Friday as they head back to Campus Field for a 6:00 pm contest under the lights with Central Connecticut.
