The Pioneer women’s soccer team dropped a 1-0 decision to Long Island Sunday afternoon in Brooklyn, NY. Meghan Reichelt (Selden, NY) made six saves in goal for Sacred Heart while her Blackbird counterpart Jennifer Bannon made five stops to earn the shutout. Katie Egan found the back of the net for the only goal of the game with seven minutes remaining in regulation.
Sacred Heart (7-8-1, 3-4-1 NEC) outshot Long Island 5-4 in the first half and 12-9 overall. Neither team would be able to find the opening goal in the first period as the two sides went into the half tied at zero.
Long Island (8-7-1, 4-4-1 NEC) scored what would prove to be the game winner with 7:00 to play in the second half. Egan beat the Pioneer defense from six yards out with a one-touch shot on a crossing pass from Kayleigh Morgan. Ashley Testani (Monroe, CT) led the SHU attack with five total shots and two shots on net.
The women's soccer team will return to action October 30 at home as they take on the Monmouth Hawks. Game time is set for 6:00 pm.
