Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) had an outstanding weekend at the plate and in the pitching circle en route to being selected the Northeast Conference co-player of the week as well as the Enterprise Rent-A-Car/Sacred Heart student-athlete of the week. The sophomore right hander posted a 2-0 pitching record and recorded 21 strikeouts in 13 innings while also notching a .400 batting average and belting her first two homers of 2011. This is the third straight week a Pioneer as earned at least a share of the NEC player of the week award.
Sacred Heart finished the weekend 3-2 and reached the championship game of the Seton Hall Pirate Classic. Sidor gave the Pioneers all they would need in the semifinals against Manhattan, tossing a complete game four-hit shutout and registering a solo homer in the second inning. She allowed only two runs during the weekend, with those coming in the final frame of a 12-2 rout over Lafayette. Sidor was not struck out in her 17 at-bats and finished the tournament with two homers and five RBIs. She was named to the Pirate Classic all-tournament team and now boasts a six-game hitting streak.
The Pioneer softball team is schedule d to have its home opener Wednesday, March 23 against UConn. First pitch is set for 3:30 pm.
