Pioneer Softball Welcomed Back Alumni Saturday

Fairfield, Conn.—The Sacred Heart Softball Team welcomed back alumni as part of SHU Homecoming Weekend 2012. The current 2012-13 Pioneers took on past players this past Saturday on the new Pioneer Park.

"It was a great event," said Co-Head Coach Elizabeth Luckie. "It was good to see out Alumni come back and play."

This season's squad defeated the alumni 1-0. After being shut out for the first six innings, the 2012-13 Pioneers scored the only run on the game on Kacie Wentworth's (Canton, N.Y.) walk-off single.

Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) led off the inning with a double and advanced to third on Justine Sibthorp's (Santa Clarita, Calif.) single. Dreher held at third as Sibthorp moved to second on Kate Nadler's (Southbury, Conn.) fielder's choice 6-3 out. With both runners in scoring position, Wentworth hit the ball to the gap scoring Dreher to win the game in the bottom of the seventh.

The Pioneers wrap up their fall schedule this Saturday at Marist against Seton Hall and Marist.
