The Sacred Heart Softball team put in a great team effort in the first game of the day for the 7-1 win over Detroit Mercy. Nicole Sidor (West Vancouver, BC) tossed seven innings without one earned run, while striking out seven. She got support from her lineup as Courtney Machamer (Williamstown, Penn.) went 3-for-3 from the plate with two RBIs, senior Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) knocked in two and Kacie Wentworth (Canton, N.Y.) picked up an RBI.
The Pioneers suffered a close 9-8 loss in the latter game to Holy Cross. Rookie Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) got the loss after giving up five runs on four hits over 1 1/3 innings. Taylor Lane (Lisbon, Conn.) and Wentworth came in in relief giving up two and one run respectively. Once again the SHU bats were hot at the plate. Sidor went 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, while Wentworth picked up three more RBIs as she also went 2-for-4. Dreher was 3-for-3, legging out a triple, and Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) went 3-for-4.
