Softball Leads 2-0 Before Rain Delay

The Sacred Heart softball team managed a two-run lead Friday afternoon before a sudden downpour halted the game against UMBC in the bottom of the fourth inning. The game will resume Saturday at approximately 3:15 p.m.

Sacred Heart had a chance to score in the top of the second inning with the bases loaded and no one out, but the Retrievers' starting pitcher Jessica Holte worked out of the jam holding the Pioneers scoreless.

However, SHU got on the board in the third inning. Jenn Robillard and Andrea Sidor led off the inning with a walk and a single before senior Jade Bowins (Frederick, Md.) moved them both over with a sacrifice bunt. Catcher Annie Dreher (Saugus, Calif.) came up next drilling a double that scored Robillard and Sidor.

Before the game was called, Sacred Heart starter Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) gave up a lead off walk accounting for the stranded batter.

In addition to completing this game, the Pioneers will face Bowling Green at 9:15 a.m. and UMBC at 4:15 p.m. tomorrow.
