HAMDEN, CONN. (April 24, 2014)—Kelyn Fillmore (Simi Valley, Calif.) went 2-for-3 Thursday in the Sacred Heart softball team's 4-3 road loss to Quinnipiac University. The loss drops the Pioneers to 12-25 on the season heading into their final home game of the season this Saturday against Saint Francis U.
Giving up four runs in five innings, Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) got the loss moving to 2-13 for her rookie season. The freshman struck out seven batters while only giving up five hits. It was the three walks that hurt her, as the Bobcats converted two of them for runs.
After Quinnipiac scored in the bottom of the first, the Pioneers tied the score two innings later. Jenn Robillard (Plainville, Mass.) reached on a fielders choice before Andrea Sidor's (North Vancouver, British Columbia) drove her home, but Sidor was thrown out reaching for a double for the third out.
Sacred Heart took the lead in the top of the fourth turning back-to-back singles and consecutive Quinnipiac fielding errors into a run. But the Bobcats redeemed themselves in the bottom of the inning taking two runs off Carlson.
