BROOKLYN, N.Y. (April 27, 2014)—Justine Sibthorp (Santa Clarita, Calif.) blasted her fourth home run of the season against LIU Brooklyn Sunday as the Sacred Heart softball team dropped two games to the Blackbirds, 1-0 and 2-1. Junior Kate Nadler (Southbury, Conn.) collected two of the Pioneers' five hits on the day going 2-for-4 at the plate over both games.
Jamie Carlson (Corona, Calif.) pitched a gem in game one allowing just three hits through six innings. Unfortunately, one of those hits was Madison Green's solo homerun, and the only run of the game. The freshman struck out five batters and only allowed a single walk.
Adrianna Mallory (Pine Bush, N.Y.) got the start in the second game. The Blackbirds took an unearned run from her early in the first bringing the leadoff batter home. But Sibthorp's homerun tied the game in the top of the fifth as Mallory continued to hold LIU, but in the bottom of the inning, the Blackbird's scored the winning run with Whitney West crossing the plate for the second time in the game.
Mallory pitched all six innings giving up the one earned run on seven hits.
The Pioneers will play Manhattan Tuesday starting at 3:00 p.m. in the season's final doubleheader.
