BALTIMORE, Md.— The Sacred Heart University softball team earned its fifth shutout victory of the season with a 4-0 win over Drexel on Saturday afternoon. The Pioneers (12-8) improve to 3-0 at the Hampton Inn BWI UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational with the win over the Dragons (5-6-1).
Top of the 2nd inning… Hailey Desrosiers broke open the scoring for the Pioneers with the one-out home run over the left field fence.
Top of the 4th inning… Stephanie Mangiameli led off the inning with a double to right field. She then advanced to third on a single by Katelyn Christian. Drexel was able to get the fly out for out number one before Desrosiers picked up the RBI fielder's choice for the 2-0 lead.
Top of the 6th inning… Lauren Delgadillo started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on back-to-back groundouts. She came around to score as the shortstop made an errant throw trying to throw out Fallon Bevino at first.
Top of the 7th inning… Jennie Boisvert extended the Pioneers lead with the two-out home run over the left field fence.
- Two of the Pioneers four hits on the day was a home run.
- SHU recorded two home runs for the second time in the last three games.
- Kristen McCann pitched her fourth shutout of the season, allowing five hits in seven innings.
- The Pioneers have hit a home run in all three games at the UMBC Dawg Pound Invitational.
The Pioneers wrap up the weekend at UMBC with a pair of games tomorrow starting at 9:00 a.m. against Saint Peter's. Before taking on Drexel again at 11:15 a.m.
