Fairfield, CT - The Fairfield Stags scratched out four runs in the top of the first inning as they downed the SHU softball team 4-1 Thursday afternoon at Pioneer Park. Amanda Bradley (Langley, BC) supplied the only Sacred Heart run of the afternoon with a solo homerun in the bottom of the fifth. Freshman Nicole Sidor (North Vancouver, BC) tossed three scoreless innings of relief and struck out five batters.
Fairfield (21-17) got things started in the top of the first with a one-out double from Tiffany Lawson that just stayed inside the first base bag. The next batter would reach on an error and a stolen base would put runners on second and third with one out. The next batter, Meghan Borst followed that by plating two runs with a single to right center. Back-to-back singles and a second SHU error allowed the Stags to take a 3-0 advantage. Allison Wigand rounded out the frame drawing a bases loaded walk as Fairfield carried a 4-0 advantage into the bottom of the first.
Sacred Heart (21-24) was unable to score a run off of Stags starter Minice through four innings. Bradley took the first pitch from reliever Emily Orr over the right center field wall to start the fifth inning. However, those would be the only runs given up by Orr as she picked up her second save of the season. Courtney Lee (Camarillo, CA) also had a strong day at the dish, going 2-for-2 and drawing a walk.
The Pioneers return to action on Saturday with a Northeast Conference double header against Bryant. First pitch is set for 1:00 pm.
