Outfielder Taylor Froelich (Garden Grove, CA) and pitcher Jen Russell (Seymour, CT) each secured a spot on the 2010 All-Norhteast Conference second team announced by the league yesterday. This is Froelich's second consecutive season on the All-NEC second team while Russell was a first team selection in 2009. Bianca Mejia of Long Island was selected the NEC player of the year after her team captured the regular season title.
Froelich played in all 49 games for the Pioneers this season and compiled a team high .327 batting average. She also scored 28 runs and drove in 15 more hitting from the leadoff spot. Froelich also tallied 18 extra base hits, including five homeruns while posting a .399 on base percentage. Froelich was also named to ESPN The Magazine All-Academic first team.
Russell picked up 13 wins pitching for Sacred Heart in 2010 while posting a 1.86 ERA. She struck out 147 batters in 177 innings pitched, including three complete game shutouts. Russell held batters to a .227 average while allowing just 47 earned runs to cross the plate. Russell was also a second team All-NEC selection in her freshman season of 2008.
