Somerset, N.J.—The Sacred Heart University swimming team has been picked sixth, out of seven, in this year’s Northeast Conference Preseason Coaches’ Poll. In the No. 1 spot again this year is Saint Francis (PA), who will be looking to win their third title in a row. Saint Francis received four top-place votes, while Central Connecticut State also received two votes for the top spot.
The Pioneers will be looking to improve on last year’s fifth place finish. Sacred Heart looks to make up for the graduation of Katie Marshall. Captains Meg Bailey (Walpole, MA.) and Allison Thurston (Berlin, CT.) look to lead the team to a great season.
Last year, Bailey finished sixth and twelfth in the Women’s 40 yard Medley and Women’s 200 yard IM respectively. Senior Laurie Casado (Queens, NY.) returns after finishing sixth overall in the Women’s 100 yard Breath Stroke.
The swim team looks towards their first victory this weekend at the Central Connecticut Invitational.
