The Sacred Heart Women's Swim Team opened their season this weekend at the Central Connecticut Invitational. Meghan Bailey, Lizzy Bennett and Malvina Reinhold shined at the event.
Senior Captain Bailey (Walpole, MA.) had three top-ten finishes this weekend. She came in third in the 400 yard Individual Medley with a time of 4:52.00. Bailey was last year's team leader and the Sacred Heart record holder for the event posting a time of 4:38.59 at the 2011 Northeast Conference Championship. This weekend, Bailey also took fifth place for the 100 yard Butterfly (1:03.50), and tenth in the 100 yard Backstroke (1:03.50).
Lizzy Bennett (Fairbanks, AK.) also had a big weekend for the Pioneers with three top-ten finishes. The sophomore came in third in the 100 yard Butterfly posting a time of 1:00.50. Bennett was second on the team last year in the event recording a 1:01.02 time at Frank Elm. At the Central Connecticut Invitational this weekend, she also placed sixth in the 400 yard Individual Medley (4:53.50) and ninth in the 100 yard Backstroke (1:05.50).
Freshman Malvina Reinhold took two top-five finishes in the season opener. She placed third in the 100 yard Breaststroke, an event where the majority of the top-ten was Sacred Heart swimmers, with a time of 1:08.50. Reinhold also took fifth in the 100 yard Freestyle, swimming it in just 56.50.
The Pioneers took fifth and ninth place in the 400 yard Freestyle Relay with times of 3:56.46 and 3:58.29 respectively.
