Albany, N.Y.--The women's swim team lost to Siena in the meet on Saturday 121-78, but the Pioneers took home some top finishes in individual events and relays.
Freshman Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweeden) beat out the competition to finish first in two events at the meet. She swam the 200 yard Freestyle in 1:58.80 and the 100 yard Breaststroke in 1:09.73. Reinhold also captured a third place finish by swimming the 100 yard Freestyle in 56.53.
Junior Stephanie Walters picked up a second place finish in the 100 yard Breaststroke, putting up a time of 1:09.77.
Co-Captains Meg Bailey (Walpole, Mass.) and Allison Thurston (Berlin, Conn.) finished back-to-back in both the 200 yard IM and the 100 yard Backstroke. Bailey finished third in both events, finishing the IM in 2:17.09 and the Backstroke in 1:06.11. Thurston nabbed the four place spot in both events, swimming the IM in 2:21.79 and the Backstroke in 1:07.15.
Liz Bennett (Fairbanks, Ak.) and Laurie Casado (Queens, N.Y.) both picked up third place spots on Saturday. Bennett finished the 100 yard Butterfly in 1:02.17. While Casado notched her third place by swimming the 100 yard Breaststroke in 1:10.10.
The team did well in the relay events. They picked up the first and second place spots in the 200 yard Freestyle Relay. The foursome anchored by Bailey finished in 1:48.47. The next group anchored by junior Emily Nunes (Seekonk, Mass.) finished less than two seconds laters. The Pioneers also placed second in the 200 yard Medley Relay finishing in 1:56.38.
The Pioneers do not swim again until after the winter break. On January 28th they head to Western Connecticut State University.
