Worcester, MA - The Sacred Heart women's team fell to Assumption College over the weekend by a score of 156-97. This was the Pioneers second meet of the year, the first dual of the season.
Sacred Heart put together a few nice performances against Assumption even though they could not get the victory. The Pioneers set a pool record in the 200 yard freestyle relay, swimming it in 1:45.11. The team of sophomore Alyssa Farnsworth (Leominster, MA), junior Hayley McGill (Old Lyme, CT), senior Meagan Bellamy (Barrington, RI), and senior Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA) grabbed the pool record and the 11 points that went along with it. The Pioneers also took the top three spots in the 200 yard individual medley. Junior Lizzy Bennett (Fairbanks, AK), sophomore Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweden), and senior Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NJ) finished 1-3 respectively. Bennett also grabbed a first place finish in the 100 yard butterfly.
"I am really happy about where we are right now and how we are swimming. Our main focus is our training right now, but it's always fun to go race. We are making a lot of progress in fitness, execution, and technique, and we are just going to continue to get faster every time we hit the pool. It's really exciting how much top-end speed we're developing, and that was demonstrated in the 200 Freestyle relay with a new pool record," commented Coach Brent Noble.
The Pioneers hit the pool next on November 30th at the Blue Devil Invitational.
