Reinhold Breaks Pool Record; Pioneers Fall to Assumption 133-111

WORCESTER, MASS. (November 15, 2013)—Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweden) of the Sacred Heart women's swim team broke the pool record Friday at Assumption College. Reinhold swam the 100 yard Breaststroke in 1:09.85 as the Pioneers had one of their best meets of the season. SHU won eight out of 13 events, but fell in the dual meet 133-111. 

The Pioneers finished first and third in the 800 yard Freestyle Relay. The team of Olivia Decas (Mattaposiett, Mass.), Lizzy Bennett (Fairbanks, Alaska), Reinhold and Jillian Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J.) claimed first swimming the event in 8:20.39. Finishing in 8:42.68, the team of Caleigh Dion (Dunstable, Mass.), Alyssa Farnsworth, Amy Nunes (Seekonk, Mass.) and Siobhan Goodman (Ridgewood, N.J.) took third.

Along with her record-breaking finish, Reinhold also took second in the 200 yard Breaststroke (2:35.53).

Decas, Bennett and Crosby each went 2-for-2 claiming first place in both races they swam. Decas beat out all other swimmer in the 100 yard Backstroke swimming the event in 1:01.81, and finished first in the 100 yard Freestyle in 56.33. Bennett took first in the 100 yard Butterfly (1:01.39), and the 400 yard IM (4:53.38). Crosby, showing her strength as a freestyle swimmer, finished first in the 100 and 500 yard Freestyle events.

The Pioneers racked up four second place finishes in the meet. In addition to Reinhold's, Meredith Nyser (Barrington, R.I.) claimed second in the 200 yard Backstroke (2:18.29), Goodman finished second in the 200 yard Butterfly and Dion was second in the 50 yard Freestyle (26.14). 

Nyser also took home third in the 1650 yard Freestyle and fourth in the 100 yard Backstroke, while Goodman finished fourth in the 100 yard Butterfly and Dion was third in the 100 yard Freestyle.

Sacred Heart took home five other Top 5 finishes. Senior Hayley McGill (Old Lyme, Conn.) snagged two fifth place finishes in the 50 yard Freestyle (26.73) and the 200 yard Backstroke (2:28.34). Her classmate Nunes took fifth in the 1650 yard Freestyle in 19:51.64. Freshman Katrina Dy (Matawan, N.J.) accounted for the other two, tallying a pair of fifth place finishes in the 400 yard IM (5:15.98) and the 200 yard Breaststroke (2:43.94).

Next up the Pioneers look to make a splash at a tri-meet with University of Bridgeport and Yale University on November 22.
