The Sacred Heart University Department of Athletics will celebrate the success of its student-athletes at halftime of Thursday night's men's basketball game. Pioneer student-athletes combined for a fall semester GPA of 3.195.
Pioneer student-athletes have posted a department GPA of over 3.0 for 10 consecutive semesters, and enter 2014 with a cumulative GPA of 3.176 as a whole. Of the 747 student-athletes enrolled at Sacred Heart, 191 earned a spot on the SHU Dean's List this past fall and 19 earned perfect 4.0 averages.
The softball team posted the highest combined team GPA in the fall semester, with the 27 student-athletes combining for a 3.449 GPA. The 3.422 combined GPA of men's fencing was the highest men's team GPA from the fall, as 29 varsity programs eclipsed a 3.0 team GPA for the semester. Women's program's combined for a 3.252 GPA in the fall, with the men's team's posting a 3.138.
The Pioneers take on Mount St. Mary's in a 9 p.m. contest at the William H. Pitt Center in a game airing on ESPN3, FCS and MASN. Thursday's game is the annual Pack the Pitt event, with undergraduate students that attend the game being entered for a chance to win a trip for two to Walt Disney World.
