SHU Swimming Breaks Two Records in Day 1 of NEC Championship

CAMBRIDGE, MASS. (February 19, 2014)—The Sacred Heart women's swim team broke two school records in the first day of the Northeast Conference Championship at MIT in Cambridge, Mass. Wednesday evening.

 

The team of Malvina Reinhold (Gothenburg, Sweden), Caliegh Dion (Dunstable, Mass.), Lizzy Bennett (Fairbanks, Alaska) and Jillian Crosby (Port Monmouth, N.J.) shattered the previous team record in the 800 yard Freestyle Relay clocking in at 7:52.91, nearly five seconds better than the previous record.

 

Earlier in the day, Olivia Decas (Mattaposiett, Mass.), Reinhold, Bennett and Crosby set another record in the 200 yard Medley Relay.  The quartette swam the race in 1:48.48 for a sixth place finish, besting the previous record by exactly one second.

 

The Pioneers head into Day 2 in sixth place with 52 points.
