Pioneers Compete at Day One of ECAC Swimming Championship

PITTSBURGH, PA (February 26, 2010) – The Sacred Heart University swimming team competed in day one of the ECAC Championship in Pittsburgh, PA today.  Both the 200-yard freestyle and 400-yard medley relays finished 12th overall.


The 200 freestyle team of freshmen Juliette Wallerstein (Southbury, CT), Meg Bellamy (Barrington, RI), and Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA), and junior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) completed the race in the finals in 1:41.95 to set a new school record.  In the preliminaries Wallerstein swam the first leg of the relay in a team record time of 24.91 seconds.


In the 400 MR Wallerstein, Marshall, sophomore Meghan Bailey (Walpole, MA), and freshman Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY) swam the finals in 4:05.22.


Wallerstein also completed in the 50-yard freestyle and finished in a time of 25.22 seconds.  Bailey raced in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:13.59


Northeast Conference Diver of the Year, junior Drew Mulvey (Bridgewater, CT) placed 3rd in the finals of the one meter dive with a personal best score of 235.45..


The Pioneers are back in action tomorrow, in day two of three, for the ECAC Championship.
