Sacred Heart Swimming Competes at Harvard Invitational

BOSTON, MA (November 23, 2009) - The Sacred Heart women's swimming team took part in the three day Harvard Invitational this weekend. Pioneer relay teams earned top five finishes in the 200-yard freestyle relay and in the 200 and 400-yard medley relays. As a team, SHU finished fifth out of the six teams competing.
The 400-MR team of junior Taylor Sullivan (Stoughton, MA), sophomores Meghan Bailey (Walpole, MA) and Laurie Casado (Queens, NY), and freshman Juliette Wallerstein (Southbury, CT) placed fourth with a time of 4:13.90. In the 200-MR, junior Katie Marshall (Cumberland, RI) and freshmen Meg Bellamy (Barrington, RI), Stephanie Walters (Wanaque, NY), and Wallerstein came in fifth as Wallerstein hit the wall at 1:55.59. The 200-freestyle team, consisting of Marshall, Walters, sophomore Allison Thurston (Berlin, CT), and freshman Rachel McGrath (Dorchester, MA), also placed fifth with a time of 1:46.53.
Thurston finished 10th in the 400-individual medley with a time of 4:56.73, followed closely by Bellamy in 11th at 5:02.91. Junior Jackie Balder (Levittown, NY) finished ninth in the 1650-yard freestyle with a time of 18:26.32.
In the 100-yard breaststroke, Casado came in 13th at 1:10.19. Right behind her was Walters, hitting the wall at 1:10.54. Marshall finished 14th in the 200-freestyle with a time of 2:01.64, while Bellamy also placed 14th in the 100-yard backstroke at 1:04.79.
