SHU Loses First NEC Match Falling 6-1 to Fairleigh Dickinson
FAIRFIELD, CT (March 25, 2011) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team lost their first Northeast Conference dual match of the season falling to Fairleigh Dickinson at home, 6-1, Friday afternoon. The Pioneers are now 8-3 overall and 3-1 against NEC teams this season.
The Pioneer's lone singles win came from junior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) who beat Manuela Leme at #5 in a third set tie-breaker. Chao lost the first set, 6-4, and answered the bell in the second set with a 7-6 (4) win. She earned the Pioneers lone point with a 10-7 win in the third.
Junior Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO) lost a tough three-set battle at #6 singles to Emily Napier. Downing won the first set 6-1 but fell in the second 7-5 and 10-5 in the third set tie break. Downing teamed with junior Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) for a win at #3 doubles, beating Napier and Leme 8-3.
Sacred Heart's match with Long Island scheduled for Saturday has been postponned. No make up date has been announced. The Pioneers return to the court on Tuesday, March 29th at Providence.
