Freshman Nicole Rydzewski Named NEC Tennis Player & Rookie of the Month

FAIRFIELD, CT (March 7, 2012) - Sacred Heart freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) was named the spring's first Northeast Conference Women's Tennis Player and Rookie of the Month award winner. 

Rydzewski jumped out to an outstanding start in the spring season, posting a 6-1 singles mark over the first month of play.  She is currently riding a six-match win streak, which includes a victory over Army's Larraine Saavedra (3-6, 6-3, 6-1) at the #3 flight, along with triumphs against Binghamton's Taylor Hollander (4-6, 7-5, 11-9) and Albany's Livia Gherman (6-3, 6-1) in #2 flight play.  Rydzewski also picked up a 6-3, 6-2 victory over RMU's Carly Limon to help lead the Pioneers to a 6-1 win over the Colonials on Sunday.  To date, she leads Sacred Heart with 13 victories against just five defeats and is 5-1 when competing at the #2 spot

The Pioneers will wrap up their spring trip on Thursday facing Evansville in Orlando, FL.
