WEST WINDSOR, NJ (April 20, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team advanced to the semifinals of the 2012 Northeast Conference Championship thanks to a 4-2 win over Robert Morris on Friday afternoon. The #3 seeded Pioneers move on to face NEC rival and #2 seeded Quinnipiac on Saturday.
The Pioneers grabbed the doubles point then relied on the top of their line-up to deliver in singles play for the win. Seniors Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) earned an 8-5 double win at #1 over Carolina Teixeria and Carla Limon. Sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and freshman Haley Dubits (Andoaver, MA) gave the Pioneers the 1-0 advantage with an 8-6 win over Isabella Nouvella and Katerina Rudneva at #3.
SHU swept singles play at #1 through #3 to advance on to Saturday. Kaldan took care of Teixeria at #1, 6-3 and 6-2. Freshman Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) won her #2 match with Clarissa Chen, 6-2 and 6-0 and Donnelly delivered at #3 with a 6-3 and 6-4 win over Samantha Alves.
Sacred Heart and Quinnipiac will take the court in one of the semifinal matches at approximately 11:30 am. In the other semifinal match, top-seeded Fairleigh Dickinson takes on #4 seed LIU Brooklyn.
